Film production in so-called film stretching lines is a complex business. Nevertheless, films and film webs are ubiquitous for a wide range of applications from packaging to medical technology. The aim during production is always to achieve the highest possible output and lowest possible production costs for the films with maximum flexibility. The heatable or coolable rollers are central to the stretching system process, because the adapted temperature control influences the film material in its expansion.
We have been manufacturing specific heating rollers designed to customer specifications for film production for many years.
Incidentally, this production of rollers has historical significance at Weisser Bärwinkel, pointing back to the beginnings of our company.
We are currently manufacturing welded, pressure-tested heating rollers from a steel base body as part of a large order. The displacement body with counter-rotating spiral is a double-shell design. The so-called bale diameter is 614 mm and the bale surface is prepared for Teflon and chrome coating. The rollers are each balanced on two levels.
Thermal energy is supplied to the heating rollers to enable certain steps in the film stretching process. The heating rollers are passed through by the tempering medium oil at approx. 140° Celsius and an operating pressure of 6 bar, thus generating the desired temperature on the roller surface. We receive the basic design specifications for this from our customer and then take over the detailed design and development of the roller production process. The production capacity is 80 to 100 units per year.
This is another example of how we, as a supplier partner, adapt optimally to our customers’ requirements – just as our customers need us to. We are able to do this because, as a general contractor for complete projects in roller construction, conveyor technology and special machine construction – e.g. in nuclear power plant decommissioning – we have just as much experience as we do in the development and manufacture of prototypes or small series. This makes us a highly flexible partner for many mechanical engineering sectors.
